No-Rain Delay

I got home late from work today, things went alright, we just had some after hours administrative things we needed to take care of. I got home and Don had just gotten home from a ride. We have some redecorating/furniture moving to do, and had originally planned on doing it today, but since it was not raining we headed to the P-town area to do some errands. We got registry stuff done and had supper at laughing planet. We had a nice afternoon. Tomorrow the rain starts again and we are planning on doing the house stuff. Basically we are re-doing the guest room so it can be more guest-y and less clutter-y. It will be nice once it is done. I am excited to get my books back on shelves and have more usable room. We are also planning to finish up the wedding invites so we can get them in the mail. As my mom reminded me, "if you don't get the invitations out, no one will come." The rest of this evening is benchmarked for relaxing and hanging out...and bed.

Finally Friday

I am so ready for it to be about 12:30 tomorrow afternoon. Then I will not have to think about work again until Monday. Today was a really really long day. We were terribly overbooked and ended up having to play musical cages/runs to get everyone settled. It was just go all day long. Overall things ended up going pretty well, with just a few minor mess ups that were easily corrected. It was just a crazy day. I made a super yummy supper of spaghetti with meat sauce tonight and we are enjoying some wine too. I am feeling pretty worn after today, so plan on heading to be before too much longer. I get to get up tomorrow and do it again.

Note to Self...

When planning an event, like a wedding, it is always important to have an idea of what you what the end result to be like....and of course, what you aspire to avoid. At all costs! To see what I mean check out http://tackyweddings.com

Progress

This has been a really tough week so far. By Tuesday it seemed like an entire week had already gone by. We have just been pretty busy and prepping for my boss leaving is adding more stress and more tasks. It also seems like we are having staff people out a lot this week, and that adds to the stress too. Don and I did finally get it together and get some wedding invitations in the works. We ended up choosing some DIY printable invites from Target. I really like them, they are very subtle ( I know that is a weird choice of words, but they are not in-your-face wedding-y) but still pretty. It was nearly a crisis getting them, as the Target is not in our town and we went after work, after I was already home 45 mins late. It was not a fun time. All we need to do now is print them up, get our additional info sheet typed up and send them out. This weekend we will work on the registry and menu. In addition to working on the invites today I also did my taxes and worked on laundry and house cleaning stuff. I think I might take a nap this afternoon since I got up pretty early to get started.
My arm and finger injuries are just about healed now. The bruise on my arm is gone on the surface but it is still pretty tender down deep. I also have a little lump there now that I think is a little nerve scar. I finally have nearly all the feeling back in my finger, it was all weird and tingly for a while, and the cut part is healed. Now I just have an ugly bruise at the bottom of my fingernail. I guess I will have to avoid hand close-ups for a little while, good thing I am not a hand model. I have work tomorrow and Saturday, but not kennels. Hopefully it will go smoothly both days and Don and I can have an enjoyable weekend too.

Monday Monday...Can't Trust That Day

Today was a long long day. I had to double book a critical case in the morning and we ended up getting really behind. The critical case was a neutered male pug straining to urinate. He had stones blocking his urethra, so passing a catheter took some time. Finally we got him relieved and were able to run some urine tests to make sure of the proper treatment. We drained nearly 150 mLs of urine from his bladder initially, and by the afternoon he was able to urinate on his own. We managed to get everything done, but it made for late lunches. One of our workers went home early not feeling well, and I was glad...even though it made more work for me. The afternoon did go well and I manged to get all my tasks accomplished with out too much running around. This week I am working on getting wedding invites squared away and am feeling a little stress since I am rapidly running out of time. I did some initial looking around today on my lunch and again tonight after work. I still don't have it all decided yet. Tomorrow is another work day and I am ready for bed right now.

News Day

My CE today was good. I enjoyed nearly all of it. There were a few speakers that were not super, but overall it was good. Once I got home I changed quickly and we were off to our friends D and J's for supper. We had a wonderful roast chicken with lemon and sage and rosemary roast potatoes. J is done with her last chemo treatment and will be starting radiation in the near future. She is doing well though and is in a good frame of mind with all the sickness from chemo behind her now. We had a good time talking with them, recounting our trip and listening to their stories. Also today we found out some not so good news about Don's father. He had a lump that was biopsied and came back as cancer. Now we wait until he sees a specialist to find out what treatment will be required. Not fun. I guess this is why no one ever says that life is easy.

Go Take a Hike

Today we headed out to Silver Creek State park for a hike with our friends A and G. We took a trail called "the ten falls trail" and it was wonderful! The weather cooperated and it was not too hot or too cold and it didn't even start to rain until we were already in the car on the way home! Each couple packed a picnic lunch and we stopped to eat along the trail. The falls (all of them!) were beautiful and several of them came off of overhangs so you could actually walk behind the falling water! The terrain was very up and down-y so we all got a good work out, but beautiful forest with loads of ferns and lovely green moss. We saw several neat nurse trees and some really cool rock formations. At one point we were on a trail looking down on the fast moving water of the stream and I saw a splash out of the corner of my eye. We were up a ways, so it took me a second to see what had caused it. Sitting there on a little rock in the middle of this rushing water was a grey bird. It was bobbing its head up and down and had a short little tail like a wren and looked like a wren, only it was bigger. Then.....IT DOVE INTO THE WATER!!!!!! We could see it and it looked like it was flapping its wings under the water like it was swimming, and moving back and forth like it was foraging or looking for food! It was really neat and I kept saying " it doesn't even look like a water bird" much to every ones' amusement. Then after a bit, it popped back out onto another rock and just as quick was right back in the water. I was just astounded. I had no idea what kind of bird it was. Once we got back I asked a lady at the main area, and she had no idea. They didn't have rangers there to ask, so she was just a volunteer type. So I looked at my bird book once we got home tonight. It is called an American Dipper and what we saw is exactly how they are. My book describes them as a slate colored bird, looks like a wren, just bigger. They go into the water for food (insects and water invertebrates) and they actually !walk! along the bottom. It was very cool. I wish I could have gotten a picture, but my camera doesn't zoom that far and the bird was pretty quick. Our hike ended up being 6 miles and took us about 3 hours, including our lunch break and photo stops. We had a great time and everyone agreed we should do it again. Especially since our total cost was part of a tank of gas and the $3 day use fee! Tomorrow I am up early for my CE, but will be home in the early afternoon. We are planning to have supper with D and J tomorrow evening and I am looking forward to that very much. Then, back to the work week on Monday.
